Text Box: Engineering and Application
Design Data
Text Box: Designed reduction ratios are fixed.

When possible, any additional reduction should be installed on the output side of the transmissions to keep the input torque within specifications.
Text Box: When the power at the input shaft is greater than the rated horsepower of the
      transmission being used, the maximum
      output torque becomes the governing
      factor
Text Box: Housing temperature should not exceed 200F
Text Box: Oil changes should be done approximately every 100 to 150 hours of operation or every six months whichever comes first.
Text Box: Frequency of shifting is unlimited.

Transmissions should be installed so that the input and output shafts rotate in the same direction “forward” most of the time.
Text Box: Horsepower ratings may be increased if the transmissions is being used in “Forward” more than 75% off the time.
Text Box: When properly adjusted , all models have a tendency to creep forward when the shifting lever is in the neutral position.
Text Box: Always use a high grade of non detergent motor oil; SAE30 above 30F, SAE 10 when temperatures are below 32F.
Text Box: Selection of Gears for
Internal Combustion Drives
For internal combustion engine drives, selection of a Snow-Nabstedt Power Transmission is based on the “Equivalent Horsepower”, which is
obtained by multiplying the engine power or
actual required power to operate the equipment, by a service factor depending on load
characteristics and duration of service.

Since, the transmissions horsepower ratings are established at the maximum RPM speed for most
engines, the maximum recommended input torque must be maintained if there is any speed reduction between the engine and the
transmission. Therefore, when utilizing an engine with a factory installed speed reducer or when speed reduction occurs due to an indirect drive from the engine, the increased output torque from the engine must be kept within the
allowable limits of the transmission.
